Mike is proud to be a 5th generation Montanan. Born in Havre Montana, Mike moved when he was young to spend his summers in Joliet Montana and his winters in Spokane Washington. After two years playing football for Whitworth College in Spokane, Mike transferred to Pullman Washington and finished his degree at Washington State University. His three favorite teams are the Griz, the Cougars and whoever is playing the Huskies.
Mike and his wife are very active within the community. He has coached Little Griz Football since 2001. He also has been a member of the Celtic Dragon Bagpipe Band since 1999. He sits on the board of directors for Community Care Youth Drug and Alcohol Intervention and Counseling, and he and his wife started a Missoula Autism Society for parents with autistic children. They also donate to several other community organizations and youth programs, strongly believing that the children within our community are our most precious resource and deserve every opportunity we can provide. Mike believes in honesty, integrity, trustworthiness, loyalty, compassion, empathy and love. He holds these values very dear to his family and teaches these to his children.
He hopes that he has not had his greatest accomplishment yet, although says that marrying his college sweetheart and having two daughters was quite the accomplishment in his life. (Mike says his wife was not all that impressed with him when they first met.) His oldest daughter attends The University of Montana.
Before entering the insurance industry in 2000, Mike gained a great deal of experience in management to sales, and identifies with the concerns business owners deal with on a daily basis. He understands how costs affect the bottom line. He looks at his customer’s business as though it was is own and asks, “What is the right thing to do?” When Mike earns a client’s business, he becomes part of their operation, and in a sense becomes their in-house insurance guy. He claims his frugal nature stems from his Scot decent, though his wife calls it being “tight with a buck.”
