Pat McCarthy is a 1993 graduate of Montana Tech of The University of Montana's Occupational Safety & Health Program. He is also received his Masters Degree in Industrial Hygiene and graduated May 2001. In addition, Mr. McCarthy holds certifications from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) as a General Industry Outreach Trainer, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Earthquake Preparedness, as well as a certification from Mine Safety and Health Administration as a Surface Mine Instructor and Underground Mine Instructor. Pat McCarthy is also certified in Hazardous Waste Operations & Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) and is a First Responder; he is also certified as a Smoke Emissions Evaluator, Lead Removal Supervisor, and Asbestos Contractor Supervisor.
Pat McCarthy started at Western States Insurance as a Loss Control Consultant in January 2003. Pat worked as a Safety Management Consultant with Montana State Fund from October 2000 until joining Western States in 2003. Previously Pat worked as the Risk Manager of Butte-Silver Bow City/County from February 1991-September 2000. Butte-Silver Bow was awarded the Governor's Safety and Health Award for safety and health policy implementation and for continued promotion of safety and health programs in 1991 and again in 2000 while Mr. McCarthy was the Risk Manager.
Pat is currently an elected school board Trustee of the Butte School Board, member of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), and the Southwestern Montana Area Safety and Health Professionals (SMASH).
